2011 Blackmores Bilgola Ocean Swim

On Sunday 11th December the annual Blackmores Bilgola Ocean Swim was held at Bilgola Beach, Sydney. A record number of 600 swimmers from across NSW competed in the opening ocean swim of the season, with participation up 100 more swimmers than the 2010 event.

The swim was the first leg in a new Pittwater Beaches Ocean Series giving entrants the chance to win one of two random draw prizes to compete in Hawaii at the 2012 Waikiki Roughwater Swim.

Blackmores Chairman, Marcus Blackmore, fired the starting gun for the first waves of swimmers then donned a swimming cap and goggles to complete the 1.5km swim with the last wave of swimmers started by former Pittwater MP and Patron of Bilgola Surf Life Saving Club, John Brogden.

Sunday’s race signified the fourth year of Blackmores’ sponsorship of the annual 1.5 km ocean swim, an ongoing part of our commitment as major sponsors of the Bilgola Surf Life Saving club.

Blackmores had a strong brand presence on the day with the beach a sea of teal feathers and banners. A Blackmores Sports Range tent was also set up for people to collect samples of Blackmores’ new sports whey protein powder range, a hit for post race recovery amongst the swimmers.
