I am a golfing beginner and have noticed that my upper back muscles and fingers are taking a hammering as I try and tame the beast that is a golf stick. Is this something anyone else has experienced?

I am ageing golfer at 71. The way I have overcome arthritis is to take a daily dose of:
Calcium glucamate
Cod Liver Oill capsules for A @ D vitamin
1 heaped teaspoon of gelatin disolved in hot water with orange juice to make it palatable, taken twice a day. You can refer to http://www.kingmaker.net/DeadDoctorstxt.html#3.%20Arthritis.
I took this for 3 months and then droped back to half the dose.
It has defintely cured my neck arthritis together with some daily stretching exercises.

I think half the 'tension' is in my head - transmitting down to holding the club too tightly!!

I find it is similar with many sports! it seems a lot of people carry their stress or tension around their shoulders and neck, which would directly effect your posture, etc.

I am looking for some help for my ageing father, he is 83yrs and suffers from rhumatoid arthritist and gout , quite bad in his knee. The pain is extreamly bad , he is very stubborn and doesn't believe the medication from the doctors are doing anything for him. Can anyone suggest something to help with the pain quickly, and give him some relief.

Hi Yvonne, I've just been reading a book called The Inflammation Syndrome and in it the author advocates fish oil, olive oil and evening primrose or borage oil or blackcurrant seed oil for rheumatoid arthritis. Fish oil contains omega 3 oils and apparently does not have immediate effect but the oil in evening primrose or borage oil or blackcurrant oil, which is GLA, works more quickly. However, they work well together. Your poor dad will have to be a bit patient but they should help. Also, he advocates high levels of antioxidants which you can buy as supplements. You could ask the Blackmores naturopaths about it. Also, to eat more fruit and vegies. And, lastly B group vitamins are said to help. I hope this of use to you and your dad but it won't happen overnight.

Arthritis;Glucosamine sulphate, 1500mg a day. MSM powder/capsules. After 6 weeks you begin to see results.

Gout: Avoid foods that increase uric acid (Blacmores have info on this)

Hi Yvonne,
Your Father will need to rid himself of acid promoting foods.
A diet of 80% alkaline, & 20% acid. This means fruit & veg. If Dad is not used to giving up his bread, biscuits,& cake, the problem will persist. try smoothies.
The pain is going to his weakest point,& he is possibly walking stooped. He will need to lean back & walk erect, which at 83 years is possibly a relearning measure.
The gout can also be a combination of a lack of vitamin C,or if he is on cholesterol
lowering medication. He is possibly correct about his medication,as it is only treating the symptoms,& in his case, not even that. This holistic measure is not hard,if he wants to feel pain free again. He must also walk for muscle strength, but not bending over. good luck Yvonne. My work with disabled people, has instant results,if a positive mind-set can be put in place.
