I'm looking for some help and advice from everyone out there in the weight management community. I got married a few weeks ago, and was really motivated before the big day to lose weight - I ate really well, I exercised regularly and I felt great (& managed to lose a few kilos too!). But I've been home from my honeymoon for a week now, and I'm finding it really hard to get back into my exercise program, and to stop eating the foods I know won't do me any good. I feel like I need something else to focus on - a goal to work towards. Has anyone got any other tips for getting back on track? Thanks! Charmaine

Hi Charmaine,
I actually start losing weight after I've got married... now, after almost 3 years I lost 23 kgs. I think the key is to find something that you enjoy and can create a goal, as you did for your wedding... I love running and started slow and now I'm training for my first half marathon. :)
Maybe you should do a goal to try as many different exercise possible in 1 month, and see which one you most enjoy doing...

Hi Charmaine
The hardest thing is to get started with running Exercising is the morning is best as we can use excuses not to exercise later in the day

Hi Ann, You may have already heard but swimming and other water sports are a great way to lose some extra weight and are much easier on the joints. If you visit a Physiotherapist they might be able to recommend you to a group. All the best!

Hi Ann,
I have arthritis from an old injury - I fully understand! I have found that a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement helps tremendously (glucosamine alone didn't work though) and I've taken up triathlons. Swimming and cycling are low-impact and by training for several different disciplines I'm not over-stressing my arthritis. Also, deep water running has been good for running training without impacting my knees or ankles.

I have found a page with some great motivation blogs and video's:

One of my personal favorites is: http://www.myrun.com.au/how-bad-do-you-want-it

This is more if you have problems reaching your goal or just feel like you can't achieve it.

Hi Charmaine, I've lost a total of 30kg and have found a goal to be one of the best ways to keep my eating on track. I had to find one which truely made it worth it for me though - I've started training for endurance triathlons. Another way was to get my friends and colleagues helping me. My partner hides the treats from me and dishes out my daily portion only, and by letting my friends and colleagues know that I'm training for an event and trying to lose a few kilos, they help to keep me on track with my nutrition. Keeping a record of your weight and measurements!! (these can change while your weight stays the same if you're gaining muscle) each week or each fortnight becomes a good visual motivator as well.

just put on underwear that cuts into your hip fat and look in the mirror! hahahaha.
My best motivation is googling sites, not really about weight loss but health and detox and liver health etc, it seems to keep me motivated to eat well

You KNOW what works - DO it. ThINK less : DO more

I am 30+ yerars older than you, so MASSIVELY more difficult for metabolic change

- Walk 30 mins daily PLUS 'twice' on Sunday!

- CHOOSE to be content with being a little 'hungry'

Hi Sawan

Based on your post, I would encourage you to take things very easily, especially due to your history of anxiety and concerns over your heart. Something like walking (outdoors or on the treadmill at the gym) or cycling are both low intensity exercises that have minimal impact on your joints, and allow you to build up your fitness gradually. It may also be easier to motivate yourself knowing your exercise routine is gentle. If you have any concerns, I would encourage you to have a chat to your doctor.

Hi Isabelle

To achieve the most amount of fat loss that’s possible in such a short space of time, I’d encourage you to use shakes such as Blackmores Superfruit smoothies for 2 out of three meals a day. This ensures you can reduce your kilojoule intake significantly while avoiding hunger and making sure all your nutrient needs are met. Have a look at the e-book at this address http://blackmores.com.au/weight (you may have to copy and paste the link). It’s a good guide to using meal replacements, and what exercises you can use to accelerate your results.
