Additional information
Protein
Evidence suggests that protein-rich foods and diets may have a greater effect than high fat foods on our feelings of being satisfied and full after a meal. Feeling full can be important in the management of appetite and hunger. Adequate dietary protein helps support a healthy musculoskeletal system which is important for maintaining healthy metabolism.
Fibre
Blackmores SuperFruit Smoothies contain a special blend of the fibres inulin and Luralean® .
LuraLean® is a proprietary concentrated soluble fibre from the roots of the plant Amorphophallus rivieri. Soluble fibre forms a thickened gel when added to water. LuraLean® interacts with liquid in the stomach and mixes with the meal forming a thick gel. This promotes a feeling of fullness at meal times and after eating which can reduce sensations of hunger.
Inulin is a fibre and a prebiotic, which is not digested or absorbed. Instead it is fermented in the digestive system, helping to promote the growth of friendly bacteria, such as Bifidobacteria, in the large intestine.
Low GI
The glycaemic index (GI) measures the differences in blood glucose levels after eating different foods. Foods with low GI are considered to be favourable in terms of health. Low GI carbohydrate foods are digested and absorbed at a slow rate and can increase feelings of fullness and reduce hunger. Conversely high GI meals have been associated with appetite stimulation and higher energy intake.
Concentrated superfruit extracts
Concentrated superfruit extracts are rich in polyphenol antioxidants. Polyphenols are a class of phytonutrients found in fruits and vegetables that have an antioxidant capacity.
Metabolism
A healthy metabolism requires nutrients such as the amino acid tyrosine and the mineral iodine, as well as vitamins B1, B2 and B3 which are required for the metabolism of fats, proteins, sugars and other carbohydrates.
Lean muscle mass is important for maintaining healthy metabolism. A diet high in quality protein, such as whey protein concentrate, helps maintain lean muscle mass.
