Concerned about memory and brain health? Start by eating more fish, say researchers

The more you eat fish, the better your memory, according to new research conducted in Norway and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

In a study of over 2000 Norwegian men and women aged from 70 to 74 years, investigators found that seniors consuming fish more frequently showed superior memory, visual conception, spatial motor skills, attention, orientation, and verbal fluency.

"All six cognitive tests were performed better by those who ate fish," said principal author Dr. A. David Smith from the University of Oxford. This effect was stronger when fish consumption increased up to 80 grams per day, he added.

Study participants also reported better cognitive results when their diets included fatty or lean fish as their main meal, when compared with those who did not eat fish.
