Why does my dog have a skin infection?

Did you know that dog's get skin infections more easily than we do? That's why it's important to consider what we use to wash our pets! Learn what causes skin infections in dog's and how we can treat help to treat them.

Dogs get skin infections more easily than humans. This is because they have different skin to us, they don’t have an acid mantle like we do, and their skin is thinner than ours. These are things we need to take into consideration when we think about what we use to wash our pets with as harsh surfactants can cause irritation, making our pets itch.

The reasons why dogs get skin infections are numerous, but most often the infection tends to be an indicator that there is something else wrong with the skin, as it tends to be a secondary event. In order to ensure that your dog does not get recurrent skin infections it is important to address any underlying causes. These can include fleas, other parasites such as mites, allergies to food or the environment, which can be caused by an impaired skin barrier.

As a result, when treating skin infections then it is also important to not only treat infection itself but to nourish and maintain the skin barrier because we know there is some underlying issue with the skin, reducing its ability to control the bacteria or yeast on the skin which results in an infection.

  • Only a 5 minute contact time is required, allowing for a faster, more convenient dog washing time and improved treatment compliance.

3. Gentler
