Does your dog have itchy skin?

During spring and summer many dogs suffer from itchy and irritated skin. While this is often related to skin allergies, a dry itchy skin can also be due to an imbalance of oil and moisture in the skin. Here are some simple steps to help your itchy dog!


While itchy, irritated skin is most commonly related to skin allergies from grasses, pollens and other irritants, it can also be due to an imbalance of oil and moisture in the skin. Some shampoos common on the market, including some medicated ones, can also strip the skin of its natural oils causing dry, itchy, irritated skin and making your dog very uncomfortable.

Here are a few simple changes you can make to your dog’s grooming routine that will make them more comfortable, particularly over the warmer months.

5 simple steps to help your itchy dog:

  1. 1. Use a sulphate-free shampoo
  2. Use a sulphate-free shampoo such as PAW NutriDerm® Replenishing Shampoo, which is gentle a hypoallergenic, sulphate-free and soap-free formulation that will cleanse and moisturise with out stripping the skin of natural oils.

  3. 2. Condition your dog's coat and skin
  4. It is important to condition your dog's coat and skin after shampooing, to re‐hydrate and moisturise and to replenish the skin barrier.
