Blackmores Bio Iron Advanced supplies a form of iron with superior absorption if taken as directed compared to some other forms of iron including ferrous sulfate.

The one-a-day formula is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Why use

  • One-a-day formula
  • Lower constipation, low nausea
  • Plus B and C vitamins and beta-carotene to support absorption and utilisation to help deliver a high potency iron supplement
  • Suitable for vegans and vegetarians

The Blackmores difference

Many Australian women have intakes of iron below the Australian RDI. Iron is needed to deliver oxygen around the body and to help maintain healthy energy levels and vitality. It can reduce fatigue and tiredness caused by inadequate iron intake.

The advanced formula contains iron bisglycinate which is better absorbed than some other forms of iron, such as ferrous sulphate, if taken with food. It is low-nausea, lower constipation, generally well-tolerated and gentle on the digestive system.

Active Ingredients per tablet

Iron is an essential mineral and an important component of proteins, such as haemoglobin, involved in oxygen transport and metabolism. Iron containing foods include lean red meat, poultry, fish, oysters, dried fruit, legumes, beetroot, whole grains and tofu.

Vitamin C

Ascorbic acid

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a water-soluble antioxidant nutrient involved in many biological processes in the body. Vitamin C is found in a number of fruits and vegetables, great sources are capsicums, blackcurrants, oranges and strawberries.

Betacarotene is a fat soluble antioxidant found in fruits and vegetables- particularly carrots. Also called provitamin A, betacarotene is converted into vitamin A in the body.

Folic acid

A water-soluble B group vitamin, folate is involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA and the activation of vitamin B12 into it's active form. Folic acid is found in fresh green leafy vegetables, broccoli, mushrooms, legumes, nuts and fortified cereals.

Vitamin B12

Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) is an essential water-soluble nutrient needed for protein and DNA synthesis, folate metabolism, and red blood cell production. Food sources of vitamin B12 include egg yolk, fish, beef, milk and cheese.

Vitamin B6

Pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) is a water-soluble nutrient involved in the production of proteins, neurotransmitters and haemoblobin. Whole grains, legumes, bananas, seeds, nuts and potatoes are good sources of vitamin B6.

Vitamin B2

Riboflavin (vitamijn B2) is a water-soluble vitamin involved in ATP production and the metabolism of many of the other B group vitamins. Food sources include almonds, mushrooms and wild rice. Vitamin B2 supplements may change urine colour to bright yellow. This is harmless and temporary.

Hi Blackmores,
Does Bio Iron Advanced contain any added sugars? You have stated "No added yeast, gluten, wheat or milk derivatives, preservatives or artificial sweeteners", but did not mention sugars. Can you please clear this up for me?
Thank you

Hi Blackmores Team,

My iron/ ferritin levels are a little low and am looking to raise them slightly.

Have been using these tablets to some effect but levels aren't raising very much over the course of 6 months.

Dr. mentioned it may be due to having them with meals that contain dairy, grains etc or having them with tea and or coffee.

Are these suitable to have with a piece of fruit and a glass of juice to increase absorption?

Thank you

Need to ask one more question, my doctor didn't explain to me, what does the two doeses mean I know it means the lower does is readily absorable iron, so does this mean my body will absorb 20mg or iron per day?

I have been taking Bio Iron daily for some time. Happy with the product, but I find the bottle impossible to open at first. It seems that the foil seal on the jar interferes with the locking mechanism of the lid. I always have to get my husband to open a new bottle for me - and he really struggles to get the lid off. Once it has been opened for the first time and the foil removed there is no problem. Please can you have a look at this and see if anything can be done to facilitate easier opening - I can't be the only person who has this problem!
