Hi Brad,

I am training for the Blackmores Marathon. I have completed a few half-marathons and a 70.3 triathlon but this will be my first full marathon. Last weekend I did a three hour run which felt fine during but following my right knee seized up and I struggled to walk on it the following day. I implemented a couple of rest days and swimming helped alleviate the pain (almost a jarring sensation/pain under my knee-cap). However, I have since had the knee pain come on during my shorter runs this week. The pain is more pronounced when I am running outside rather than a treadmill as the slope of the ground seems to make it worse. I am familiar with runners knee and suspect that is what I am experiencing. I have only had this happen once many years ago when I was running everyday. The past few years I focused on triathlon training and so I had a few more soft-impact sessions in my week. I wanted to ask what you thought my best approach is training wise and if there are any long-term repercussions that could result? Like most people on this forum, running is a big part of my life and I want to be able to run for a long time yet! :)

Thanks in advance

Hi Brad, I strained my left hamstring a couple years ago sprinting and it doesn't seem to give me any problems until I start running long distances 10km once I finish it also takes a while to recover. I have started to use a form rub roller on the floor to break up the scar tissue to see if it speeds up the recovery can you suggest anything else I can do to avoid this niggling strain while running and to speed up my recovery?

Thanks! Frank

Hi Brad,

I pulled a calf muscle last Wednesday and it's still sore. I haven't exercised since. Should I continue to rest it or try running on it?

Thanks,
Maggie

Hi team
I did a long run half road / half trail beach 2 weeks ago, and towards the end i felt like i didn't have any power in my right leg. this turned into a niggle on the inside back of my leg - top of calf or just below the knee. I also started to get a pain through the third toe on my right foot around the same time. i didn't run for 1 week to rest and they felt fine last week over shorter distances however a long run on weekend has caused them both to flare up. the toe/foot doesn't cause discomfort outside of running however the leg does. I've tried stretching but not too sure what I should do.
thanks

Hi Brad,
I ran a half marathon a couple weeks ago and about 7 km in, I started getting bad pains under my toes and at the toe joint in both feet. I never experienced this in any of my training runs and it totally caught me off guard. It ended up causing me to run 10 minutes slower as the pain was so bad. My shoes aren't even that worn out so I don't know why I had that pain. I haven't tried running since as I wanted to take a little break from long distances, but I'm scared it's going to happen again for my next half marathon. Do you know what caused it and what I can do to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks!

Hi Brad. If I squat right down or sit on my feet with my legs tucked under me, I get a shooting pain in the knuckle at the base of my big toe for a day or so after. Is there any remedy you can offer?

Cheers,

Trish

Hi Brad, I have a very sore glute/hamstring. I sprinted with inadequate warm up three weeks ago and it's not getting any better. I've been using heat packs. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jennie.
