What you eat is important to every aspect of your health. While there is no specific diet to help with arthritis, there are foods that may to be helpful in reducing arthritis symptoms. You can increase your intake of these foods by making a few small changes to your diet.

Omega-3 fats

Omega-3 fatty acids may help to reduce inflammation in the body.

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in oily fish – like salmon, mackerel, halibut, sardines and tuna. They are also found in walnuts, and ground linseeds.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is needed by the body to produce normal healthy connective tissue in the body – including healthy cartilage.

Include plenty of vitamin C rich foods in your diet like: red capsicum, oranges & orange juice, strawberries, watermelon, citrus fruits, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower.

Ginger

Ginger is a warming herb that stimulates circulation. It also has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Try adding some sliced ginger to a stir-fry, or slicing it fresh and making it into a tea.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a beautiful herb with a bright yellow root that is often used in Indian cuisine. Studies have shown that turmeric has anti-inflammatory actions. Try adding some turmeric powder to a home-made curry, add some to a sweet potato patty or use it as part of a spice rub on steak or chicken.

Dietary antioxidants

Dietary antioxidants can help prevent oxidation.

The best way to ensure that you have a rich intake of dietary antioxidants is to make sure that you eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
