Carpe diem!

1 mins to read
Living each day to the full is an important part of our health and wellbeing.

Living each day to the full is an important part of our health and wellbeing. And as a parent of young, impressionable kids, I’m aware that not only should I be making the most of each day for my own benefit but, in terms of lifestyle choices and attitude, setting a good example to my kids.

But as popular as this “carpe diem” sentiment may be, when just stepping out the door each day feels like a major feat – as is the case for many busy parents, the ideal can easily abandoned.

So, in order to gain inspiration for the days that I need it most, I’ve made a list of some of the things I’d like to do and work on in my life. These are things that should me make me happier, so hopefully I can be a better mother, wife, daughter, friend and sister.

And no, it’s not a bucket list. It’s just about enjoying and making the most of each day – which sounds easier- for many of us, than it actually is!

Anyway, here goes:

  • Don’t drink alcohol during the week
  • Commit to a sobriety (3 month) challenge
  • Take up ocean swimming (overcoming new-found fear of sharks)
  • Try surfing
  • Learn to ski
  • Jog with pram
  • Run a marathon
  • Try skiing - at least once
  • Eat more fruit
  • Eat more green veggies
  • Cut down on salt
  • Try meditation
  • Enjoy a sunrise every week
  • Go camping in the outback
  • Take the kids on an overseas adventure
  • Start a meaningful blog
  • Write a book
  • Do some postgraduate study
  • Volunteer
  • Play with the kids more
  • Learn a language
  • Cook a new recipe each week
  • Print out photos

What do you think? Do you have to work on making the most of each day or does it come naturally? What would you add to your list?
