Preheat the oven to 180°C /350°F, then grease and line a loaf tin.
Sift the flour, baking powder and mixed spice into a bowl. Rub in the butter until the mixture turns into fine crumbs. Stir in the sugar.
Make a well in the centre of the mixture and work in the eggs and milk until combined. Then stir in the bananas, figs and nuts, and transfer to the loaf pan.
Bake for 1 1/4hours, or until cooked when tested with a skewer. Remove from the oven, cool in the tin for 10 minutes, and transfer to a wire rack. Leave to cool completely, and serve cut into slices.
