
Since it began in 2004, Facebook has been a place where people can share their thoughts, feelings, what they’re up to and who they’re with. In fact the status update is one of the social media behemoths most popular features.
But what do our updates say about us?
A recent study of 555 people published in Personality and Individual Differences has examined why some people may post about an amusing personal anecdote whereas others share their political opinion or declare their devotion for a significant other.
According to the “Big Five” model of personality, people are, to varying degrees, extroverted, neurotic, open to experience, agreeable or conscientious.
So with these traits in mind, along with the role of narcissism and self-esteem, the researchers from Brunel University in the UK set out to determine what our status updates reveal about us and if there were certain types of posts that received more comments and likes.
