With numerous demands and priorities, it can be hard to keep up. Technology that was meant to increase the speed of communication and save time has instead made our lives busier than ever.
Being in a rush all the time could be described as a modern epidemic - a condition titled rushing man syndrome.
What is a bloke to do?
Instead of just pushing through and coping as best you can, try the following strategies that may help you to slow down instead of running yourself ragged.
- Focus on the big ticket items - Identify what's important, and re-evaluate your goals. Then try to spend more time doing the things that will result in the best possible rewards.
- Cut something out - It's hard to do less, but something's got to give. Identify one commitment or habit in your life that you can cut back on. Whether it's a television show that has lost its edge or a committee where you have lost interest, find a way to lighten up your schedule.
- Combine activities - Are there activities and commitments you could combine? Instead of going to the gym and then catching up with a friend, see if your mate wants a game of tennis?
- Finish what you start - Single-task instead of multi-tasking. Focus on one thing at a time, and try to complete it before commencing another. It can be overwhelming having too many projects and "things to do" hovering over you all the time.
- Take a technology time out - Identify a morning or day every week where you disconnect from technology. Switching off your smart phone or Blackberry can prevent interruptions and allow you to focus on what's important.
