What may seem like a harmless thirst-quencher may actually be impacting your fertility if you are male.

What may seem like a harmless thirst-quencher may actually be impacting your fertility if you are male.

We all know that cola is not considered the healthiest of beverages. Research has found that it can significantly reduce male fertility. The Danish study showed that cola consumption of more than 14 half-litre bottles a week and/or caffeine intake over 800mg a day was associated with reduced sperm concentration and a lower total sperm count. Beer and high quantities of alcohol are well known to not only reduce sperm count and fertility, but also significantly dampen the libido; and coffee is known to affect sperm motility.

An alternative may be the delicious pomegranate juice. Preliminary trials are proving pomegranate juice a sperm boosting drink. The antioxidant effects of pomegranate seeds protect against sperm damage and may improve sperm motility.

Oxidation is sperm’s worst enemy. So if you are looking at boosting your sperm count and your fertility make sure you consume plenty of antioxidant rich foods such as berries, colourful vegetables, Brazil nuts and of course, good quality dark chocolate.
