I went out to dinner with a group of old friends and their partners a week ago. At 32 weeks pregnant I was feeling a little tired, frumpy and well, unsexy!
But the reception I got from a few of the blokes in the party flattered and surprised me. It made me think that being pregnant doesn’t have to be a turn off; in fact, it can have quite the opposite effect.
Men, I’ve come to realise, fall into two distinct camps when it comes to buns in the oven. Those that can’t get enough of expanding bellies (and other growing areas too), and those that view pregnancy as a body-hijack to be kept at arm’s length!
Women are a little harder to nail down. Some expectant mums say their libido rockets to sky-high levels, others claim intimacy makes their skin crawl and there are those that treat each trimester as a science project, their physical state dictating the level of closeness permitted.
Where do I fit? Well it changes daily, but the further I get along, the old saying “two’s company, three’s a crowd,” rings true. Maybe I’m just an old prude?
What’s your take on intimacy when expecting?
Do you feel sensual or sordid?
Have you been pleasantly (or otherwise) surprised by male/ your partner’s attention or are you treated more like an androgynous mother ship?
