Is a delicious, indulgent dinner with champagne on the menu for you this Monday?
Now, I don’t want to extinguish those flaming fires of passion you may want to express via way of food and drink on your beloved, so I thought I would offer food for thought by swapping out those empty calories for something a little less sinful. Don’t worry – I’m not suggesting carrot sticks and tofu balls, but I am thinking more along the lines of slightly healthier options.
Why not try breakfast in bed? Cook up poached eggs on rye bread with baby spinach and lightly cooked tomotoes, mushrooms or avocado. Serve this with green tea or freshly squeezed juice. Nothing screams ‘I Love you’ more than a wholesome breakfast!
While the days are still long you could pack a picnic and head to a park, the ocean, or an open-air cinema in your local area. Include a salad, smoked salmon, whole grain bread rolls and some antipasto of your choice. This option gets you enjoying the fresh air of summer, and keeps you away from the crowded restaurants, with the bonus of a healthier meal.
Sexy super foods like oysters are well known aphrodisiacs that you can add to your picnic. Oysters are full of zinc for that added romantic zest. Chocolate is also classed as an aphrodisiac. It has been found to contain compounds that can give you a natural sense of wellbeing and excitement, similar to endorphins. It’s best though to swap out the milk and white chocolate for the darker variety. Dark chocolate contains more antioxidants and is better for you.
Lastly, I would suggest rethinking champagne as your drink of choice. If you do want to have an alcoholic drink, red wine contains a higher amount of antioxidants than many other alcoholic counterparts. A sparkling shiraz will have the goodness of a red if you still feel like some bubbles. But remember – go light on the alcohol.
