Journaling is a fantastic way to get in touch with who you are in a world of plenty of “doing” and not so much “being.” Why is it important to get in touch with who you are? For most people it helps give them a sense of purpose, internal stability, motivation, passion, and purpose.
Creative journaling doesn’t have to be just a written report of what is happening in your life. It can include drawing, painting, scrapbooking, poetry, and just about anything else creative.
Creative journaling: how to
Keep a medium sized blank book handy that is suitable to carry with you, and make sure it is sturdy and suitable for different kinds of art mediums. Stock up on art gear such as glue, glitter, paints, charcoal, pastels and watercolours and you are ready to go.
You may like to have a theme for your journal—perhaps what you are grateful for, or a visual representation of your feelings each day. Taking a photo a day for a year is another great idea, and the images can be put together creatively either in digital form, or by printing each shot and pasting them into your journal.
And, if you are reading this and you’re still thinking that you are not a ‘creative’ person, think again. No-one needs to see your journal except you, so why not give it a go? Go on. I dare you to! What have you got to lose?
