Seeing the amazing transformations of the Biggest Loser contestants is certainly inspirational. After months of dieting, training, challenges and the highs and lows of weekly weigh ins, these people deserve all the rewards and recognition they get. When someone loses more than half their body weight in a matter of months, you can’t help but wonder about transforming your own health.

If you feel inspired to make some changes, here are my top five lessons to take from The Biggest Loser.

  1. You can do it – If you put your mind to it and really commit to a cause, you can achieve anything. It also helps to have a goal. Whether you want to lose weight for your partner, your family or yourself, it’s vital that you have a positive, motivating force that drives you towards success.
  2. Create your own master class – Continually seek to learn more and find out the latest information on how to cook, eat, exercise and stay motivated for weight control.
  3. Find at-home help – The contestants on the biggest loser have the support of dieticians and personal trainers to keep then on track. Seek out the support of your own friends and family to help keep you motivated
  4. Diet and exercise is essential – The contestants used consistent healthy eating and exercise strategies to transform their body shape. Make your own diet and exercise plan, and stick to it.
  5. Have realistic expectations – On the show, contestants are able to adhere to dramatic lifestyle changes 100%, and dedicate their whole time to the cause. In the real world, people can’t spend all day focusing on diet and exercise. Aim for improvement, not perfection.

What lessons have you taken from the Biggest Loser? Do you find the show inspirational, or do you think it creates unrealistic expectations about how much weight people can lose?
