As a weight loss coach, I am passionate about helping people lose body fat. One of the best ways I can do that is to pass on tips and strategies to help people help themselves. If you are equipped with the right knowledge, and become resourceful at using all the right tools that are available, then you will be more likely to succeed. Following is my list of the top five tools for losing weight.

  1. Accountability - Answering to someone, even if it’s yourself, is a key ingredient to weight loss success. Fortunately, there are some fantastic websites that give you access to a variety of articles, healthy recipes, exercise videos, kilojoule counters, weight loss calculators and tracking tools such as an online food diary and activity log. Having your diet and exercise program organised really helps to keep you on track. Few do it better than the Blackmores Personal Health System.
  2. Motivational quotes - Most people know what to do, but don’t do what they know when it comes to losing weight. Motivational quotes and affirmations are a great way to keep you inspired in your journey. A powerful quote that means something to you is worth writing down and sticking on your fridge or computer. Seek out books, websites and newsletters that offer motivational quotes.
  3. Scientific studies - Health, fitness and nutrition information seems to change every day. Scientific studies help to eliminate confusion and provide direction, showing proven strategies for weight control. The Blackmores website will keep you up-to-date on all the most relevant studies on weight loss, and presents the information in an easy-to-understand way. After all, the information has got to be practical.
  4. Personal challenges - You need something to get you out of bed in the morning. Set yourself short-term and long-term goals that are challenging, and that push you a little harder than you would normally push yourself. This might include a personal best time to beat, training for an event such as a half-marathon, or getting in shape for a trekking holiday. By working systematically and progressively, you can achieve great things.
  5. Portable listening devices - Music really helps to inspire you during exercise, and can make a workout much more enjoyable. Load up your phone or portable music player with songs that encourage you to go hard and fast. Alternatively, you may prefer to listen to podcasts or audio books to distract you during longer workouts, and maybe even educate you about losing body fat.
