Travelling is nothing less than exhilarating. It can get us seeing people and places with new eyes and connect us to the beauty and wonders of the world.

But both the intrepid and humble traveller alike require good health.

Whilst preparing for my upcoming trip to Thailand, I have started to be conscious of how I can enjoy my travels by staying as healthy as possible.

Probiotics

Firstly I have started taking probiotics to make sure that my gut health is more likely to withstand any foreign invaders of the bacterial world.

I am pretty adventurous with food and local delights, so want to make sure that I don’t come down with anything. I started one month ago and I will continue taking them during my trip.  I choose probiotics that are shelf stable and do not necessarily need to be in the fridge.

Echinacea and vitamin C

Now, I identify with the scenario of getting sick and falling in a heap as soon as I jet off. That’s why immune-boosting herbs are always a part of my travel kit. Echinacea, andrographis, vitamin C and astragalus are all in my kit. At the first sign of illness, I take the recommended amount suggested on the label. This may come in handy too if I come down with a tummy bug.

Ginger

Motion sickness is a doosey, so I try not to forget to pack the ginger as it may help to counteract nausea. I take it at least 30 minutes prior to my trip – be it air, land or water travel.

Essential oils

Aloe vera may help soothe any burns, and for bites, stings and bumps, chamomile and or calendula ointment will help.

I’ll try and drink plenty of water to flush out my system and keep hydrated, and for any travel that’s off the beaten track, I’ll take some wet wipes and hand sanitiser with me. Also, sunscreen is a given!

Lastly, I will try and get some sleep and wind down, and get myself prepared before I head off to Thailand.

Do you have any travel planned, and what’s in your travel kit?
