This café-style smoothie is a fresh twist on the classic banana milkshake. Impress your guests with one of these delicious drinks, or ditch the toppings for a perfect, speedy post-workout smoothie.

A rich source of nutrients, each glass provides roughly 135mg of magnesium, equating to over 40% of the RDI (Recommended Daily Intake) for adult females and a third of the RDI for adult males. Our bodies require magnesium to support muscle growth, contraction and nerve function. Magnesium is a particularly important mineral for active adults and children of all ages.

Ingredients

Serves 2
Prep time 5 minutes
Vegan, Vegetarian, Dairy Free

  • 2 large frozen bananas, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 2 Medjool dates, pitted
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp oat bran
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 cups soy milk
  • 1 cup ice
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 tbsp dark chocolate, finely grated

How to make

  1. Place the banana pieces, dates, rolled oats, oat bran, cinnamon, soy milk and ice in the jug of a blender. Blitz until mixture is thick and well combined.

  2. Divide mixture between two glasses. Top with peanuts and dark chocolate shavings.

Notes

Using soy milk is a great way to bump up the magnesium here, feel free to use regular dairy milk if you would prefer.

Smoothies are best consumed immediately.
